The International Engineering Consortium (IEC) will showcase the world’s leading voices in broadband solutions in two panels on mobile convergence at the GSMA Mobile Asia Congress 2008 taking place today at the Venetian Hotel, Macau
CHICAGO– 18 November 2008 – The International Engineering Consortium (IEC) will feature chief technology officers and senior executives from leading service providers and content owners including Cable & Wireless, Pacnet, PCCW Limited, Sony Pictures Television International, Turner International Asia Pacific Ltd. and Viacess. Huawei Technologies and ZTE Corporation will also participate in the panels today at the GSMA Mobile Congress 2008. The panels take place at 14:00 and 16:00 in the Sicily 2401B room at the Venetian Hotel.

Speakers in the first panel, entitled “The Convergence of IPTV and Mobile TV: Prospects, Potential, and Pitfalls,” include Yeow Ooh Sheng, Corporate Director, CTO Office, Huawei Technologies; Paul Berriman, Chief Technology Officer, PCCW Limited; Ken Lo, Vice President, Business Development, Asia, Sony Pictures Television International; Ringo Chan, Vice President, Wireless & Interactive Content Development and Distribution, Asia Pacific, Turner International Asia Pacific Ltd.; and Francois Galy, Vice President – Asia, Viaccess. The session will speak specifically to the integration between in-home IPTV and mobile TV, in terms of program handoff, network infrastructure, integration, interfaces, potential user interest, and solutions that will drive these revenue-generating services forward.
The second session, entitled “The Next Phase of Collaborative Communications – Integration Everywhere,” features Declan Leong, Vice President Network Operations, Cable & Wireless Macau; Wilfred Kwan, Chief Technology Officer, Pacnet; Y.K. Wong, Senior Vice President, R&D, PCCW Limited; and Donglin Shen, Vice President Wireless Technology and Marketing, ZTE Corporation. The topic will encompass the work already under way and the future needs for the successful integration of different silos of communication and collaboration technologies into a single, transparent user experience accessible from familiar telephony devices and workgroup applications.
The panels will each tackle the issues of the convergence of fixed and mobile networks, the implications this convergence has for network operators and future challenges and plans to bring innovative FMC services to the marketplace.
